In Progress; In Situ is the first instalment of a series of exhibitions that wishes to discover the potential of the place that is Baanhof. Despite the ever-evolving city, the building has been a constant fixture in the centre of Rotterdam for 80 years. 

Exhibiting the works of seven artists who are in the early stages of their careers, it will explore how they can transform one of the most iconic spaces in Baanhof, the Souterrain. The harsh industrial basement is a remnant of a time when the building was used as a mechanical building for the RET.  Now, the artists’ works will collectively juxtapose the rough environment through their various approaches to incorporating nature within their practice– whether in a playful, sensual or dystopic manner. 

The architecture itself helps the viewer navigate the visual parallels and correlations between the pieces and their surroundings. The Gallery will showcase artworks and furniture pieces, part of the private collection of Robert van Oosterom. The pairings of the pieces highlight how choices in form and colour are not limited to a single discipline, but rather serve as the backbone of all forms of sensory culture.
